Craanford deserved their first win in The Courtyard Ferns Intermediate hurling championship Group B on Saturday, but Bunclody's Billy Kelly and goalscorer Aidan Nolan proved too tough to overcome, leaving the teams level at full-time.
HWH-Bunclody 2-12 Craanford 0-18
On an overcast evening in St. Patrick's Park, Craanford's hunger for victory was clear through superb performances from Pat Murray, Oliver Doran and John Fleming.
Billy Kelly opened the scoring for Bunclody before a powerful reply followed from Oliver Doran. Kelly proved to be Bunclody's only on-form shooter for the first quarter, and he retaliated with a skilful point from play before Pat Murray claimed the best point of the match.
From beyond midfield, the centre-back made the most of a fine pass and mesmerised spectators with his superb shot.
Fleming claimed one from play and Des Kavanagh did likewise before Kelly replied for Bunclody with a well-taken point from a placed ball. Mick Lyons worked well with Fleming and Kevin Poole secured a point from a free while, once again, Kelly's consistently continued at the other end.
Poole stood tall for Craanford with placed balls and Bunclody's Kevin Dunne and James Moorhead responded, sealing a point each. After an outstanding catch from Niall Berney, Matt Kenny followed through with a fine point.
Craanford's two-point lead quickly turned into a four-point deficit though as Aidan Nolan found the back of the net on two occasions and, although Oliver Doran added another to his name, Billy Kelly cancelled this out before the half-time whistle blew.
A quick blast of points from Fleming and James Byrne brought proceedings level before Kelly and Seán Kenny guided their men ahead by two. Doran added another point to his name while Fleming and Poole followed suit.
Colm Farrell put Bunclody ahead before the two free-takers, Kelly and Fleming, traded points twice. Fleming brought Craanford level and ensured a point for both squads.
