Having trailed by eight points at the interval, Wexford gave themselves a brief lifeline on the resumption with a Jamie Myler goal inside thirty minutes of the restart but that was as good as it go as a superior Offaly outfit cruised to a comfortable five point victory in this Leinster minor football championship quarter-final at O’Connor Park, Tullamore, this afternoon.

Offaly 0-19 Wexford 1-11

The sides were level 0-2 each at the end of the opening quarter both Wexford points coming from frees through Aaron Dobbs and Cathal Walsh. However with Michael Mooney assuming total control in midfield and kicking three excellent long range points in the process it helped his side to a 0-11 to 0-3 interval lead, although Mark Rossiter shot a great goal chance approaching the interval wide having been set up by Mikie Dwyer.

Within thirty second of the restart Dwyer set up Jamie Myler who rifled a great shot to the roof of the net. Points from Dwyer and a Walsh free reduced the deficit evening further but with Mooney storming back into the game kicking an excellent point in the process the Offaly side regained their composure going on to built a 0-17 to 1-7 lead by the fifty-first minute with Conor Lynam contributing excellent points both from frees and play.

Wexford finished the game strongly but were unable to break down the home defence but having been on the rack for lengthy stretches of this game it was only a case of damage limitation as the homeside remained in control, sending the model county to their third defeat of the weekend.
