O'Hanlon points the way
Horeswood survived a second-half revival from Davidstown-Courtnacuddy to record victory in this Junior hurling championship Group A tie in Taghmon, writes Kevin Walsh.
Horeswood 1-15 Davidstown-Courtnacuddy 1-10
In what was a highly-entertaining game between two talented sides, Horeswood always looked to be in control but Davidstown-Courtnacuddy showed an admirable attitude in the second-half and made their rivals fight hard for the win.
Michael O'Hanlon was the go-to man for Horeswood and he opened the scoring with the first of his ten-point tally. O'Hanlon was also involved in the opening goal of the game minutes later.
The centre-forward's long ball towards goal caused mayhem in the square and it was eventually bundled over the line by Eoin Murphy.
O'Hanlon moved his team further ahead with another free but Davidstown-Courtnacuddy eventually hit back when the energetic David Dunne fired over from a tight angle.
The Horeswood captain, Declan Murphy, got in on the act with his first score moments later but Davidstown-Courtnacuddy were making a game of it with Johnny Delaney, James Doyle and Billy Martin all pointing to keep their side within touching distance.
Delaney scored his second just seconds after half-time and his side took the lead for the first time in the game moments later when Alan Campion found the net.
Michael O'Hanlon levelled things up but Horeswood then had their goalkeeper, Eoin Mythen, to thank for a fine save to deny Walter Furlong.
David Dunne and Michael O'Hanlon traded points to keep the teams level with 15 minutes to go, but from here Horeswood found another gear. Craig Murphy, Lorcan O'Brien and another brace from O'Hanlon put four between the teams, and although David Dunne and Alan Campion hit back, Horeswood had their measure and finished off the game with further scores from O'Hanlon (two) and Declan Murphy.
