Plans to play a third round of club football championship games before the onset of big summer games for our county teams have been shelved.
Agreement had been reached at County Board level to play round three on the weekend of May 17 in order to alleviate the normal end-of-year backlog which meant Wexford had no representative in the 2014 AIB Leinster club football championship.
However, news emerged Tuesday that the C.C.C. members have agreed to a request from both the Wexford Senior hurling and football managements to have the weekend of May 17 free from club championship games.
As a result, the third round of football championship scheduled for that weekend has been put on hold for now and replaced with a round of the league.
The fixtures plan until June now reads: weekend of April 19, second round of football championship; weekend of April 26, third round of hurling league; weekend of May 3, first round of hurling championship; weekend of May 10, second round of hurling championship; weekend of May 17, fourth round of football league; weekend of May 24, third round of hurling championship; weekend of June 1, fourth round of hurling league.
