Ultan Quirke smashed home a clinching goal two minutes into added time to settle an Enniscorthy Electrical Wholesale Junior hurling championship Group B game St. Mary's (Rosslare) were in danger of throwing away in Taghmon on Saturday.
St. Mary's (R'lare) 1-16 Bannow-B'mitty 0-14
Bannow-Ballymitty had trailed by 0-14 to 0-5 after just ten minutes of the second-half and looked set to slump to their second consecutive defeat without much resistance. However, the New Ross District side put together a run of seven points in a row to set up a grandstand finish in which they pushed Rosslare to the limit.
The move that brought the clinching goal was brilliantly clinical and started with a powerful Tiarnan Rossiter pull on a loose ball in his own half.
It set the excellent Paul Kinsella away on the left wing and he picked out Quirke who, in turn, located the back of John Sinnott's net.
There was little sign of the trouble that would follow as St. Mary's dominated the first-half on the back of six Lee Devereux frees.
The Rosslare attacker didn't miss a single dead ball on the evening and it was enough to help his club into a 0-10 to 0-4 lead at the interval.
Bannow-Ballymitty's comeback was aided by a trio of points from Patrick Fitzharris and from their own star man Gary Morton. However, despite getting to within two points with seven minutes to play (0-14 to 0-12), they couldn't get any closer and St. Mary's clung on to victory.
