Rathnure had no complaints in Portlaoise on Saturday, June 11, when a well-drilled Ballyboden St. Enda's side defeated them by 2-18 to 1-11 in the Leinster Club hurling league Division 1 final.

A late burst of 1-3 without reply emphasised the dominance of the Dubs - managed by Glynn-Barntown's Paul Carley and featuring his fellow former Wexford hurler, Malachy Travers, at left corner-back.

Wasteful Rathnure struck 18 wides compared to a mere eight from the victors who led by 1-10 to 1-7 at half-time. The losers' goal came from Richie Flynn who atoned for a penalty miss in the eleventh minute, but in truth they were always playing second fiddle and were unable to repeat their feat from 2007 when they won this particular competition.
