Seen and Heard: Emily wins young player of the year
A great honour came Wexford's way last week when Emily Coakley was selected as the Leinster ladies' football young player of the year.
The St. Fintan's attacker was one of the star performers on the county Under-16 team which won an All-Ireland during the summer, and she was also prominent on the second level schools scene with Loreto (Wexford).
Emily is a younger sister of Julie Coakley who was a member of the Wexford squad which won the All-Ireland Junior championship title last year, beating New York in the final.
She will receive her award at the TG4 All Star awards at the Citywest Hotel on November 14 where she will get an opportunity to rub shoulders with the modern-day greats of the game, including the all-conquering Cork contingent.
Emily showed what she is capable of, and the type of form which earned her this award, in the Loreto's first outing in the Leinster 'A' championship recently (see report on facing page) when she scored a superb 5-1. Another 1-1 followed from the St. Fintan's ace in their second engagement which ended in defeat.
