Senior spoils are shared
Crossabeg-Ballymurn 2-12, Clonee 2-12: Crossabeg-Ballymurn and Clonee played out an exciting draw on Monday in the second round of the Wexford ladies' football Senior championship in Ballymurn.
Clonee had the first use of the stiff breeze and raced into four-point lead after ten minutes, with two from Teghan Furlong and one each from Aine Cosgrave and Ali Evered. The home team had three wides before two pointed frees from Katie Redmond halved the deficit.
The game was pretty even at this stage and Clonee's Ann Byrne increased their lead with a fine point, only to see Crossabeg-Ballymurn add two points from Aleisha Cullen and Aoife Sheil.
Again Byrne added her second before Lorraine O'Connor got one back for the home side. Clonee got a real boost before the break when Teghan Furlong scored a fine goal; she also added a point after Liz Evered had converted a 30-metre free to leave it at 1-8 to 0-5 in favour of Clonee at half-time.
Crossabeg-Ballymurn now had the breeze at their backs and they set about reducing Clonee's lead with four unanswered scores from Aoife Sheil, Katie Redmond (two) and a goal from Rianna Cullen who had replaced her injured sister just before the break. The sides were now level and Clonee showed why they have been playing Senior football for a long time and put their noses in front with a Liz Evered point.
Crossabeg-Ballymurn kept pressing forward and scored four points in a row from Noelene Shanahan, Aoife Sheil (two) and Katie Redmond to put them three ahead with ten minutes to play.
Clonee showed their experience and drew level with points from Aine Cosgrave, Liz Evered and Lisa Brady, but Crossabeg-Ballymurn weathered the storm and looked like they had won it when Rianna Cullen scored into the top of the net as the game entered injury time.
Clonee had one more trick up their sleeves when after a string of accurate passes Teghan Furlong scored into an empty net to tie it up.
