Shelmalier 3-15 Adamstown 0-3
Holders Shelmalier got back on track after a surprise loss to Kilmore in the ladies' football Senior championship when they recorded a convincing 3-15 to 0-3 win over Adamstown in Hollymount.
After going down in the opening round the champions were keen not to lose further ground at the top of the table and they made sure of this in comprehensive fashion.
The opening quarter was lively as Shelmalier established a 2-1 to 0-2 thanks to two goals from Sarah Harding-Kenny and a Deirdre McMahon point, with Marcella Cullen and Chantelle Martin replying with points for Adamstown.
The Over The Water girls added a further five points courtesy of McMahon (three), Deirdre Byrne and Leona Tector to lead by 2-6 to 0-2 at the interval.
Aided by the breeze in the second-half, Shelmalier held sway with Kate Kelly adding 1-1, McMahon and Tector getting 0-3 apiece, and Kellie Kearney and Shauna Murphy contributing 0-1 each. Adamstown replied with a Chantelle Martin pointed free to leave the final score Shelmalier 3-15, Adamstown 0-3.
In addition to the scorers, the winners were well served by Róisín Murphy, Ciara Corrigan, Shelly Doyle, Ciara Neville, Lisa Quill, Deirdre Fox, Ceara O'Brien, Eadaoin Fitzgerald and captain Maeve Quill.
Leanne Delaney, Mairéad Furlong, Catríona McCabe, Sandra Thorpe, Aine Shannon, Niamh Kelly, Natasha and Chantelle Martin and Marcella Cullen tried hardest for Adamstown but they were outclassed.
