Shelmaliers got their Pettitt's Senior Hurling Championship campaign back on track with a comprehensive dismantling of Shamrocks in Oylegate on Sunday evening.
Shelmaliers 2-17 Shamrocks 0-7
The over-the-water side would have been disappointed to get the defence of their title off to a stuttering start when they lost to Oulart in their first game but were never in danger in this tie, despite a slow start.
A Maurice Casey point and a brace of frees from Bob Jacob edged Shamrocks ahead against the breeze. However, Shelmaliers hit back with a seven points in a row before Jacob notched again.
Things went from bad to worse when Brian Doyle flicked home the opening goal in the 25th minute and another five consecutive minors saw the 2014 county champions into a 1-12 to 0-4 interval lead.
James Cash goaled within seconds of the restart to kill off any lingering Shamrock hopes and Joe Kelly brought his tally to ten in a comfortable second half.
