Some common sense

Seen and Heard - stories behind the scenes

It was good to see some common sense prevailing late last week when the date for Wexford's Leinster Junior football championship final against Louth in Drogheda was changed to Tuesday, June 21.

The game was originally pencilled in for the following night and would have clashed directly with Ireland's last game at Euro 2016 against Italy.

It would have been nothing short of ridiculous to stage the football at the same time, especially in such a strong soccer town as Drogheda where United Park is located within a stone's throw of the O'Raghallaigh's club ground which doubles up as Louth's home base and will host the provincial decider.

Kudos to Leinster Council for making this sensible change.
