Tough trip to Derry next on list

While the back door is still ajar for the Wexford Senior footballers, they have been handed a daunting journey in the second round of the qualifiers with an away trip to Derry on July 11.
There was no repeat of a home venue from Monday morning's draw when they came second out of the drum, being paired with the Ulster side who will be smarting from their provincial semi-final defeat to Donegal by a slim two-point margin.
Even with that they still showed enough to suggest the formidable force they will be, having edged out Down in their opening Ulster championship game by a point.
But for Wexford there was no repeat of the late Westmeath collapse as they turned on the style to dish out a five-point defeat to the Mourne men in their opening qualifier at Innovate Wexford Park on Saturday.
Wexford were placed in the pot but from the outset they realised that no matter who they drew it would provide another daunting challenge. For the second successive round they will face northern opposition, but they will relish the task after their exploits against Down.
