U-16s end on losing note

Wexford put in a solid first-half display against table-toppers Tipperary in the All-Ireland Under-16 'A' camogie championship but fell away badly in the second-half in O'Kennedy Park, New Ross on Sunday.
Tipperary 2-16 Wexford 1-5
The Slaneysiders applied themselves well all over the field in the first 30 minutes to hang with the Premier county and head in at the interval level (1-4 to 0-7).
Yet things went wrong quickly in the second period, with only Becky Walsh's 42nd-minute free adding to the hosts' tally.
Tipperary seemed set to dominate as a brace of Eibhlis McDonald points helped the visitors into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead after just eight minutes. Orla Crowe had registered her side's only score in that time but Wexford got into the match when Aoife Curran found Lettie Whelan and the St. Martin's youngster hit the net with a handpassed goal.
Again Tipperary nipped in front but from 0-6 to 1-1 behind the hosts scored through Aoife Dunne and Curran to tie the game for the second time. A long-range free from Sinéad Meagher was countered immediately by an Orla Molloy point and Wexford went in at the break level.
McDonald took seven minutes of the second-half to goal and put Tipperary ahead, and thereafter it was a procession.
The dangerous corner-forward added her second major ten minutes later and a barrage of points wrapped up victory for her side.
Wexford have at least been consistent, losing all four games by a margin of exactly 14 points. However, that's a long way off the standard required, meaning the County Board will need to take a good look at this age group at year's end to try to pinpoint what exactly is going wrong.
