Enniscorthy native Joe Fortune won't have an involvement in the forthcoming Bord Gáis Energy All-Ireland Under-21 hurling final on September 10 after the Dublin side he manages succumbed to Galway after extra-time in the penultimate round in Thurles on Saturday.
However, some Wexford interest will still be provided by Barry Whelan from Tramore who is a member of the extended Waterford panel.
While he didn't feature among the 24 in the facile weekend win over Waterford, Barry came on during the Munster final when our neighbours scored a thrilling win over Tipperary before a packed Walsh Park.
He is the son of Michael Whelan, originally from Michael Street and a member of the well-known family which runs Whelan Cleaning.
Barry will now be hoping to complete a tremendous All-Ireland double as he already holds a Minor medal from 2013 when Waterford accounted for their next opponents, Galway, in the final.
