SARSFIELDS Well done to the Minors who started the playing activity for 2017 with a runaway 6-12 to 1-1 win over Taghmon-Camross in the Jim Byrne Cup on Sunday.

The lads will be in quarter-final action next Sunday, January 15, when they are away to Crossabeg-Ballymurn at 2 p.m.
The third annual Wexford Has Talent competition in association with the Wexford People is in full swing at the moment. Many thanks to all club members who are helping out behind the scenes, and well done and best wishes to all participants.
Best of luck also to Seán, who runs the ballroom dancing in the clubhouse on Tuesday nights, as he is one of the professional dancers on Dancing With The Stars which started on television last weekend.
The winning lotto numbers on January 9 were 1, 20, 22 and 24. There was no jackpot winner, and next week’s jackpot is €7,000.
All roads lead to Freddie’s Bar in Screen on Friday, January 13, where a sports quiz starts at 9 p.m. as part of the Prickly Rose of Shelmalier competition.
The quizmaster will be the comical and entertaining Liam Spratt who will not only ask the questions but will no doubt have a few comments of his own to add to the night’s entertainment.
The questions will be set by Gerry Forde and, given the great enjoyment of the previous Rose of Shelmalier events, this quiz promises to continue the theme of these great social occasions.
Get your team of four people costing €40 together in readiness for the quiz on Friday night.
The A.G.M. of the Shelmalier G.A.A. club will take place in Hollymount on Saturday, January 21, starting at 7 p.m., and the club would like to invite all members and supporters.
Excitement is building in the parish as the grand final of the Prickly Rose of Shelmalier is fast approaching, with all roses and their partners now busy out canvassing for support in order to claim the grand title ‘Prickly Rose of Shelmalier’.
The grand final itself will take place in Hotel Curracloe on Friday, January 27, and tickets for the event will be on sale shortly, so you are advised to get yours as soon as possible as it will be a night not to be missed.
Congratulations to Shelmalier players Simon Donohoe and Eoghan Nolan who lined out with the Wexford hurlers and footballers respectively against U.C.D. in the Walsh Cup and O’Byrne Cup in Gorey on Sunday, with both players giving great performances for their county.
There was no winner of the Shelmalier lotto on Monday, January 2, when the numbers drawn were 6, 7, 15 and 25. There was one match three winner with Theresa, John, Michelle and Kyle winning €200.

Hard luck to our Minor footballers who were defeated by Dunbrody Gaels on Sunday by 3-9 to 2-7.
The club was very proud to have three Senior players tog out in the Wexford jersey at the weekend as the hurlers and footballers took on U.C.D. in Gorey.
Mark Fanning resumed his position as netminder for the hurlers who earned a victory, while John Leacy and Rob Tierney lined out for the footballers in their drawn game.
Glynn-Barntown G.A.A. club are looking for Under-21 and Junior management for hurling and or football for 2017. Contact John Cooney (087-2807679) if interested.
Last week’s lotto numbers were 5, 6, 14 and 16. There was no winner and no match three winner. Lucky dips: Caroline Whelan and Eleanor Kelly. Next week’s jackpot is €5,600.
The under-age club A.G.M. will take place on this Friday, January 13, at 8.30 p.m. in The Forge, Crossabeg. All mentors and parents are asked to attend.
Our club A.G.M. took place on Friday. Outgoing Chairman John Cummins thanked all our players and mentors at adult and under-age level for all their hard work during the year.
He thanked our club sponsor Liam Eviston, anyone who had supported our club lotto and other fundraisers during the year, and also our penny bank collectors. John thanked the club officers and all those who had worked with him on the committee during his five years as Chairman.
He said he was proud to have served as club Chairman and wished everyone involved with the club all the best in the future. Jerry Bernard was elected the new club Chairman and he thanked John for all the hard work and time he had given to the club.
Other appointments were: Vice-Chairman, James Grannell; Secretary, John Fortune; Assistant Secretary, Daithí Redmond; Treasurer, TBC; Assistant Treasurer, Conor Shovlin Jnr.; P.R.O., Bill Eviston. Team management appointments were: football, Conor Shovlin Snr.; hurling, to be confirmed.
Adult membership fees for 2017 were set at: €120 for players, €60 for students and €50 for non-playing members, all payable before January 31.
An E.G.M. of the adult club will take place on Friday at 7.30 p.m. in The Forge, Crossabeg.
Thanks to all who assisted with stewarding the double-header of games between Wexford and U.C.D. last Sunday.
