Wexford withstood a ferocious second half fightback from visitors Dublin at Hollymount on Thursday evening, to book their place in the Walsh Cup semi-finals, most likely opposite Kilkenny.

Wexford 1-17 Dublin 0-17

Davy Fitzgerald's side were set to advance if they could avoid defeat to the boys from the capital and they looked to be on their way to an impressive victory after Podge Doran's 17th minute goal helped them into a 1-11 to 0-9 interval lead.

The Dubs chipped away at the advantage in the third quarter and drew level when Fergal Whitley pointed in the 57th minute (1-12 to 0-15). Wexford, showing a spirit that has occasionally been questioned in recent years, refused to let the game slip away, with Faythe Harriers duo Richie Kehoe and Lee Chin (2) adding late points to secure the win.

As Group 3 winners, Wexford have been granted a home draw against the winners of Group 2, likely Kilkenny. That tie will be played on Sunday week, 29th January (venue and time TBD).
