Wexford saunter to opening round win
Wexford maintained their rich vein of early summer form by easing past Limerick in the All Ireland Senior Camogie Championship in Wexford Park on Saturday afternoon
Wexford 3-17 Limerick 1-16
The Leinster champions ended up winning by seven but the tie was more one-sided than the score suggests as Wexford had the luxury of missing a rake of great goal chances as they eased away from their Munster opponents.
Kate Kelly kicked home an early goal as her county moved 1-2 to 0-1 ahead inside four minutes. When Una Leacy drilled home her opening major the visitors looked in big trouble, trailing 2-4 to 0-1 after just 13 minutes.
By half-time Wexford still led by nine (2-9 to 0-6) but the advantage had swelled to thirteen when Leacy nabbed her second goal after great resilience by Katrina Parrock.
Limerick, helped by a lot of soft decisions going in their favour, and Niamh Mulcahy in superb form, did battle on to the end but Wexford comfortably held on to a winning start. Next up for the Slaneysiders is a visit to Birr on Saturday (2.30pm) to face hosts Offaly.
