Dympna denies Wexford
THE WEXFORD ladies travelled to Freshford on Saturday last optimistic that they could qualify for the All-Ireland in September but had to give way to an impressive Limerick side on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-8. Limerick were defeated in last year's final and were determined to reach the decider again, and right from the off they set about reaching their goal.
Glynn-Barntown build on fine start
GLYNN-BARNTOWN were well deserving of their five-point winning margin over the St. James' and Horeswood combination known as Dunbrody Gaels at Mersheen on Monday of last week in the semi-final of the Captain Michael Baker Under-21 football Premier championship.
Three teams to make drop
FOUR SENIOR football clubs will be battling for their lives in Wexford Park on Saturday next when the WFC championship relegation semi-finals take place.
GRASSROOTS
Hard luck to the Under-10s who lost an epic Kent Stainless Wexford District Division 1 final to St. Anne's in Páirc Charman on Thursday last by 6-6 to 1-15. Any of the large crowd present would readily agree that football was the real winner and we are really proud of our team. Some of their point-taking under pressure was fantastic, so well done to them and to their mentors, Kieran Carroll and John Foley.
U-12 at semis stage
Under-12 Division 1 semi-finals: Ballyhogue v. CrossabegBallymurn, Sat., Sept. 4, 11 a.m., in Bree (Ian Plunkett); Kilmore v. St. Martin's or Clonard, Mon., Sept. 6, 6.45 p.m., in Kilmore (Adeleine Fox).
Shels down holders
IT WAS all so easy for Shelmaliers as they demolished the holders, St. Martin's, with ease in this one-sided Captain Michael Baker Under-21 football Premier championship semi-final at Hollymount on Wednesday last.
