Ben tastes glory

Wednesday March 17 2010

IT WAS glory for Wexford C.B.S. boxer, Ben Robinson, when he came out a narrow but deserved winner of the 31 kg. Boy 1 final in the Leinster boys' and girls' 1, 2 and 3 deciders held in Dundalk over the weekend.

Robinson boxed well all through before getting the better of Shane Flavin (Paulstown) on a 2-1 scoreline.

There was no such luck for his Wexford C.B.S. colleague, Aaron O'Brien, who lost 5-1 to Calvin Turner (Ryston) in the 33 kg. final.

Ryan Murray (St. Anthony's/St. Pat's) lost out to Thomas Stokes (St. Seachnaus) in the 42 kg. on a 6-2 scoreline, while Conor Jordan (St. Aidan's) suffered a narrow 7-6 final defeat to Pat McInerney (Athy) in the 27 kg. final.

Gorey boxer Darragh Sheridan recorded an 11-6 victory over Brian Kennedy (St. Mary's, Daingean) in the 60 kg. final.

Sacre Coeur boxer Jack Jackson lost 5-3 to C. Ivors (Callan) in the 36 kg. boy 1 final.

In the girls' finals, L. Kinsella (St. Anthony's/St. Pat's) lost the 48 kg. final to C. Donovan (Athy), 12-7. Bunclody's Shauna Kavanagh received a walkover.
