Wednesday March 17 2010
A 16-STRONG team from Gloucestershire is coming to Wexford this weekend to participate in a representative match against a Wexford Badminton Association selection in Ramsgrange Community School on Saturday and Sunday, March 20 and 21.
This Glos Stars squad comes with a big reputation and will provide stiff opposition for the Wexford selection. The visiting team includes players such as Joe Honeybone and Chris Dickens who were runners-up in the CEBA Strasbourg 2009 Badminton championship and were the 2009 Victor Sprudel Cup German champions.
In the mixed doubles, the pairing of Joe Honeybone and Emily Witham will be hoping to repeat the form that made them runners-up in the 2009 Victor Sprudel Cup.
Also travelling with the team is Nathan Parr who has played with Gloucestershire in the English intercounties league, and up and coming Under-17 player Chris Gresty will be using the games for much-needed match practice as he prepares for the ICT campaign in April.
The Wexford selection also have their own international and provincial stars including Laura Butler (Davidstown) who was the runnerup in the recent Irish Senior ladies' doubles championship and is currently ranked at number four in the Irish Senior ladies' singles.
The team will also feature Laura Lynch (New Ross) who has played with Ireland at under-age level and is a national Under-17 mixed doubles champion.
On the male side, the Wexford selection will have county number one Edward Cousins and will also feature national circuit competitors such as Alan and Vincent Mackay. Wexford team captain is Frankie Morrissey.
