Last week's quiz: Paco Sheehan joined the club in 1951 from the Slippery Green Fiddlers. Based around Green Street and Talbot Street, they were known as the Fiddlers because in olden times when fairs were held in Wexford, the itinerant fiddlers who came to perform camped there. In 1951 the Slippery Green Fiddlers changed their name to the Blues and Whites at their A.G.M.

This week's question: Five club members have served as Wexford Senior football selectors since our formation in 1907. How many can you name?

CLONARD

Indoor training continues every Wednesday in St. Peter's College Sports Complex. Under-8s and -10s from 6-7 p.m., and Under-12s and Under-15s from 7-8 p.m. Outdoor hurling training for Under-14s is taking place every Sunday morning from 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

Well done to both our adult teams at the weekend who continued the good start to the year with league wins over Blackwater and Our Lady's Island. The second team had five points to spare over Blackwater on Saturday while the first team had too much for Our Lady's Island's first string on Sunday evening.

It's been a very positive start to the year and with the hurling about to get under way here's hoping the year continues on an upward curve. Well done lads, keep up the good work.

There is no training this week for the lads as they prepare for their winter training break in Edinburgh at the weekend - just don't forget the gear lads!

A final reminder to all players that membership is now well overdue and all players (¤110) will have to be paid up if they wish to play in the league this year. Non-playing members (¤20) are also urged to ensure that they pay their membership. Any questions or queries, please contact membership secretary John Cleary on 086-1620904. Any player who is yet to pay their membership is urged to rectify this A.S.A.P.

Anybody wishing to purchase club gear for the coming year, please contact Joe Sheehan to place an order.

TAGHMON-CAMROSS

The Senior team got their league campaign under way against local rivals, GlynnBarntown, on Sunday week last and lost by 0-15 to 0-4. Their second game on Friday night last under lights in Taghmon, against St. Mary's (Rosslare), achieved a better result, with the home team winning on a scoreline of 2-11 to 0-7. It was great to see Jason McLoughlin back playing in his familiar position in the full-forward line after a long lay-off due to injury.

The Junior team also have two games played, beating Volunteers B in their first game, 0-9 to 0-5, and being defeated in their second game against Crossabeg-Ballymurn by 3-8 to 1-10.

The club would like to wish a speedy recovery to both Johnny Waters and Tony Kent, both suffering from serious injuries.

The hurling league gets under way this weekend. We are playing in Premier C, and our first opposition is Gusserane away on Saturday at 5 p.m.

The South East Tops are now entering the closing stages, and excitement is building to see what two groups will go head to head in the grand final which takes place on Friday, March 26. There are only two more group stages to go. Friday next sees Our Lady's Island and Tinryland, and on Monday, March 22, Kilmore and Our Lady's Island both take to the stage for their final performances, with the two finalists being announced that night. There are a limited number of tickets still available for both nights - please contact Margaret Nolan for further information.

The G.A.A. club wish to congratulate Camross Drama Group on their recent award at the Rehab People of the Year Ball. A truly deserved award, for all the hard work, dedication and professionalism that this group put into their productions.

The Scór novelty act will compete in the Leinster final on Sunday, March 28.

The club extends deepest sympathies to the Dunne and Banville families on their recent bereavements.

ST. MARY'S (M'TOWN)

Our Intermediates travelled to Kilmore on Saturday and came away with a draw (1-5 each). Despite being short a lot of first team regulars, the lads put in a strong performance and deservedly came away with a share of the spoils. Scorers were Martin O'Connor (0-3), Robbie O'Connor (1-0), Paul Hillis and Gavin Cullen (0-1 each). Our Junior team lost at home to a strong Ballyhogue team by 3-15 to 2-7.

Our Minor team traveled to Bunclody on Thursday night and lost by 3-11 to 2-9. This was the first game for the lads this year and a lot of training will have to be put in if they are to challenge for honours at the end of the campaign. Training takes place every Thursday at 5.30 p.m. in Páirc Charman.

The club would like to offer its condolences to the Cleere family on the sad passing of Philip Cleere. May he rest in peace.

The Minor footballers drew with Clongeen on Sunday morning last in a great game which ended on a scoreline of 5-10 to Blackwater and 6-7 to Clongeen. The Under-16 hurlers will play away to the Duffry Rovers on Sunday next. The club would like to wish the very best of luck to the National School teams who will take part in the mini sevens in the coming week. A special thanks to Peadar Moran who manages the girls' football and camogie, and also to Tom Foran who manages the boys' football and hurling. Good luck to all the teams in this tournament.

The under-age committee would like to thank all the parents who registered their children at the registration day held recently.

The club would also like to express its condolences to the family of Philip Cleere who recently passed away. Philip always supported St. Joseph's and his son, Tony, played with the club. May he rest in peace.

SHELMALIERS

Shels met St. Anne's in the SFL away on Saturday last and, with both teams missing some players, it led to a well-contested game. The teams were evenly matched for the first ten minutes but gradually the Shels started to win the midfield battle and pulled away to be ahead by 0-9 to 0-3 by half-time.

In the second-half, St. Anne's had the slight hill advantage. Shels were attacking less and defending more. As a result, St. Anne's scored 0-7 to 0-2 for the Shels and it was all to play for with only five minutes remaining and one point between the teams.

However, Shels dug deep and scored the two last points through Mark Tobin and Derek Walsh to leave the final score at 0-13 to 0-11 in their favour. That's two wins out of two - a good start to the year!

Our Senior hurling team start their league campaign on Sunday next against Faythe Harriers in Páirc Charman at 5 p.m.

Our Junior hurling team are provisionally down to meet Geraldine O'Hanrahans in New Ross on Saturday at 5 p.m. Check the web page for confirmation - www.shelmaliers.ie

All roads lead to Hotel Curracloe on Saturday night next for the Shelmalier G.A.A. club's 1910 centenary commemorations, the 'Families of the 1910 Men' function which begins at 8 p.m. The Shelmalier club would like to point out that this function is for all the people of the parish, whether you are a descendent of the 1910 team or not.

Apart from a presentation to the families of the 1910 men, there will be a very interesting exhibition of G.A.A. items from the time including the actual hurling ball used in the 1910 final. The night will conclude with music and light refreshments and no doubt there will be many G.A.A. stories and matches recalled from the last one hundred years.

After an exciting badminton season, all junior members of the Shelmalier Badminton Club are reminded that the season comes to an end on Tuesday, March 23. The introduction of badminton in Hollymount last September has proved to be an enormous success with numbers attending both the junior and senior sections increasing all the time.

The club would like to thank all the junior members for participation and no doubt they all thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The Shelmalier club would also like to thank the many parents and coaches who helped coach and supervise these junior sessions. The junior badminton season will begin again in September, so watch out for details of dates and times.

FAYTHE HARRIERS

The Faythe Harriers launched our third annual Pikeman Challenge on Friday last at a well-attended event in Wexford Credit Union. The event will consist of an 80-kilometre walk over three days over the weekend of Friday, June 4, to Sunday, June 6.

Many who have done the walk in the first two years have already committed to doing it again, with Joe Hore, Paud Browne and 'Kerdock' Murphy all committed to making it three-in-a-row! The Pikeman Challenge has been a fantastic fundraiser for the past two years for the club and hopefully will be the same again in 2010.

We have developed fantastic facilities in Páirc Charman and work is ongoing in relation to further development. The success of events such as this are vital if the club is to continue to develop facilities for the youth of Wexford town into the future.

Anyone interested in taking part in the full three-day walk, or even to walk on one of the days, be they from sporting clubs or representing charities or just doing the walk for fitness reasons, is more than welcome, and all queries regarding the event should be directed to Richard Murphy at 0876680630 for further information.
