Vols here to stay
Dear Sir, On reading the article in last week's paper re-transfers for town clubs and Joe O'Shaughnessy's concerns about the St. John's Volunteers closing as a club.
I would like to put Mr. O'Shaughnessy and any other person's mind at ease that the club is as strong as ever and that the new committee are all singing from the same hymn sheet for the betterment of the club.
Out of the ten transfers, eight of them to the best of my knowledge have not played for five years and only two played last year. The club has a membership of around 200 if not more, with under-age teams from Super-7s, U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 in both codes, men's teams in both codes and our ladies have U12, U14, U16, and are now in the process of starting up a Junior team.
There is a letter posted on the club website to explain the events that took place over the last few weeks (re: club status) on www.volunteersgaa.com, in Páirc Charman and in Mannix Place. Any further correspondence will also be posted in these locations.
Let me again reassure everyone that the Volunteers are here to stay. Jackie Fitzhenry, P.R.O.
