Wednesday March 10 2010

Last Tuesday's club-sponsored ladies' 15-hole stableford competition winners were: 1, Joan Dunbar (33), 35 points; 2, Ursula Cousins (19), 32 points.

Competition continues on Tuesday next with draw times: 9 a.m., 9.30 a.m., 10 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. The lady Captain and Competitions committee hope you all enjoy your first 18-hole competition of 2010.

The first major gents' open event took place over last weekend sponsored by Roadstone Provinces Ltd., and we would like to thank Alan Geraghty for his support and sponsorship. In first place with a great score of 49 points with threequarter handicap were Colm Garry (12) and Alan Franklin (18).

In second place were Tom Kirwan (13) and Pachelli English (18) with 47 points (back nine), and in third place were Joe Kavanagh (19) and Tommy Kehoe (14), also on 47 points. There was a great turnout with 168 entrants over the two days with fine weather.

Next weekend we'll see the first major singles stableford 18-hole competition of the golfing season sponsored by the solicitors, and the time sheet is already fairly full.

Following the cancellation of the last Seniors outing due to early morning frost, they venture out again tomorrow (Thursday), weather permitting, sponsored by David Garahy.

Well done to Dale Donohoe, Seán Mernagh and Richard Grannell on capturing the Under16 Leinster Junior Schoolboys title at Leinster Hills Golf Club for St. Mary's C.B.S. on Thursday last, recording 55 points.

The presentation of the club mixed took place on Sunday night last. Well-deserved winners were Claire Lambert and Brendan Flood, while in second place were Elizabeth Browne and George Leech.

Congratulations to Eleanor O'Brien on winning the Enniscorthy Lions Club hamper. Eleanor does Trojan work in providing sustenance for the weary golfer.
