Glynn-Barntown get the clearcut win they needed
A CONFIDENT Glynn-Barntown outfit blitzed Ballyhogue in Bree on Friday evening last to qualify for the semi-final of the Junior 'C' hurling championship - edging out Cloughbawn on points difference in the process.
Needing to win by 23 clear points to creep into second place in the table, the Wexford District side went on a scoring spree in the second-half to edge past their target with three points to spare.
Mick Doyle goaled early to set his side on the way, but Tommy Kehoe failed to add to the major tally when his penalty was tipped over in the sixth minute. The rest of the half, and indeed the match as a whole, was just about picking off points.
Kehoe notched four of his twelve in the opening period while Doyle and Colm Moore added two apiece as their side opened up an eleven-point lead (1-11 to 0-3) at the end of the first period.
Playing into the wind didn't take its toll as a further 18 white flags were raised after the break. Substitute Aidan Denton looked lively, scoring three times, but it was no more than glorified shooting practice as Glynn-Barntown advanced with a bit to spare to face the tougher test of St. James' in the semis.
