Jacob named sportswoman of month
WEXFORD CAMOGIE captain, Ursula Jacob, was named The Irish Times/Irish Sports Council 'Sportswoman of the Month' for September last week following her outstanding performance in the All-Ireland final.
The 27-year-old from Oulart-The Ballagh inspired her Wexford team-mates to a fantastic three-in-a-row victory over Cork as she grabbed 2-7 in the 3-13 to 3-6 win.
The accolade of winning the 'Sportswoman of the Month' means Ursula is now in contention for the prestigious title of 'Sportswoman of the Year' for the second time in her career.
Established in 2004, the aim of these awards is to recognise the abilities and achievements of women in Irish sport.
The awards run over a 12-month period, with the judges selecting a winner each month for her ability to excel at sport.
From the 12 monthly winners, the overall 'Sportswoman of the Year' is selected and announced in December.
The winner is decided by a judging panel which is represented by members of the media from The Irish Times, RTÉ and the Evening Herald.
