Barron first local athlete home

WEXFORD ATHLETES were to the fore in the Pettitt's Supervalu Wexford half marathon and 10k held in Wexford town on Sunday morning last. The second man home overall and winner of the county half marathon title was Slaney Olympic's David Barron in a time of 1:16:43 behind Rúairí O'Donnell of Ferrybank (Waterford).
S.B.R's Tommy McElwaine was the second Wexford man to cross the line and Jason O'Connor of Slaney Olympic was the third Wexford athlete in, taking bronze, and fifth overall.
The first lady in the county championship was Jackie Carty (Kilmore), and also the first woman overall in a time of 1:22:06. Anna Bushe (Sliabh Buidhe Rovers) took silver and Sinéad O'Brien from Kilmore took third position.
The team results will be published on the Athletics Wexford website during the week and will be also available from John Moore at the Intermediate Road Race in Enniscorthy on Friday evening next.
