Bates bang on cue for Irish U21 crown

Shane Bates of Brendan Corish Gardens in Wexford town won the 2016 R.I.B.S.A. Irish national Under-21 snooker championship in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club, Carlow, recently.

In the final Shane, from Liam Mellows S.C., beat Noel Landers from Youghal C.Y.M.S. by four frames to two.

Shane now qualifies for the world Under-21 championship in Belgium and the home internationals in Leeds.

Shane had already won the Irish Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 championships and now he adds the Under-21 title.

Shane thanked his sponsors, Uncle Sam's in Wexford, for their support and his coach, P.J. Nolan, and Rodney Goggins for helping him achieve this fantastic result.

More good news for Wexford was Rodney Goggins from Liam Mellows S.C. winning the 2016 R.I.B.S.A. Irish national billiards 150-up championship in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club, Carlow. In the final Rodney beat Larry Drennan from Kilkenny by four frames to nil.
