County athletics finals on Saturday

It will be a very busy day on Saturday next, June 13, when the county athletic finals will take place at the G.A.A. grounds in Bree.
The day will commence with the annual parade of participating Areas and here the County Board are urging every Area to make a big effort to get their children to the venue on time to take part. Let your children join in the celebrations and march around the field with pride in their Area and county.
The parade will be led by the children from the Clonard Area, with all the other Areas following them, flying their banners and displaying their local colours. A competitor from the the BBBCR Area will carry the torch around the grounds and set it alight on the top of the stand.
The pledge will be read in English by a competitor from the Tintern Area and in Irish by a competitor from the Bree-Davidstown Area. Every participating Area must display their Area number on the singlets of the competitors. If you do not know your Area number or have not put in an order to Treasurer, Delores Moran, please contact her immediately.
The parade gets under way at 10 a.m. and all events will begin at 11 a.m. The county committee members are appealing to Areas to send along personnel to help out with the various events. No competition can be run without officials and we owe it to the children to have people in place to run the games efficiently.
Please note that children to represent Wexford at the national finals in the cross-country Under-12 and Under-14 competitions will be selected on the day. The county will run off the 600m and 800m events for boys and girls.
The winners in all these sections will be the automatic choice for that event at the national finals, and those who finish in second, third, fourth etc. will be invited to make up the cross-country teams.
A reminder to all Area Secretaries that entries (with names) for the various relays will be accepted up to 12 noon on the day of the finals. No entries will be taken in after this time.
Please make sure that your managers are aware of this rule. Please be also aware that starting blocks are not permitted in any age group.
Round one of the Leinster team events are under way. On Wednesday, the Castlebridge-Crossabeg Area played hosts to teams from Dicksboro, Co. Kilkenny. The Under-13 chess team defeated their opponents 4-1 and the Under-11 hurlers came out the victors on a 1-8 to 0-2 scoreline. Both teams are now at home to teams from Co. Carlow in round two.
The badminton Under-15 boys' team from Kilrush-Askamore lost out to a team from St. Lazerian's in Co. Carlow in round two, having no game against Kilkenny. This Area had to withdraw their indoor soccer Under-10 girls and also their indoor soccer Under-13 girls' teams.
The Tintern Area also had to withdraw their outdoor soccer Under-12 girls' team. Other teams will be in action in the coming week.
Would all managers or Area Secretaries please forward reports on the various matches to email@example.com. Thanks for your co-operation.
As county P.R.O., I will be busy at the grounds in Bree on Saturday, taking photographs of all the competing children. These photographs will be sent to the papers for inclusion in the coming weeks, along with a report on the day's activities.
Some photographs may also be posted on the website/Facebook page and in this case, no names will be added.
If you do not wish to have your child`s photo posted, please contact me on 086-1980775 or call to the county recording desk on the day.
