Club Call
Clonard Badminton: The men's doubles sixth division team finally got the show on the road with a visit to Ballycogley last week. The home team had a 6-3 victory in some very close encounters.
Eoin Blake made his debut for the team and salvaged a point in his games. The next matches are at home to Gorey and away to New Ross, but the mid-term break will necessitate those games to be re-scheduled.
Clonard: Shane Jenkins, Kevin Tierney, Eoin Blake, Clem Daly.
Ballycogley: Aidan Furlong, Peter O'byrne, Brian Kielty, Derek Rowe.
The novice ladies' doubles sixth division team travelled to Taghmon and were lucky to only lose 8-0. Clonard had another debutante, Cora O'leary, playing against a talented Taghmon team and the experience will stand to her in the next game, at home to Mullinavat.
Clonard: Gillian Robinson, Yvonne Nolan, Amanda Wickremer, Cora O'leary.
Taghmon: Clodagh Dunne, Caroline Quigley, Tina Bridges, Emer Delaney.
The county championships will start in a fortnight, but Clonard will not be represented this year.
The weekly club competitions for the juvenile players were played in Scoil Mhuire. Ryan Lynch and Adam Molloy came first without dropping a point, with T.J. Cousins and Ryan Busher in second place. Caolan Hartigan and Shane White were third.
The winners of the girls' doubles were Emer Furlong and Seona Fanning-ironside. Hannah Dempsey and Tara O'farrell were second.

WEXFORD TRIATHLON
Wexford Triathlon Club is hosting its third annual 10 km. road race on April 9 (Easter Monday) at 11 a.m. in the idyllic setting of Rosslare Strand. Last year's race was a huge success with almost 350 runners and walkers taking part, and we hope to make this year's event even bigger.
The timing of this event provides a perfect platform for those planning on doing other events later in the year or indeed for those just wishing to take on this challenge in its own right. The 10 km. race can be done as part of a team or individually, walked, jogged or run.
The course is very flat so those participating at a competitive level will find it very fast, whereas those perhaps less experienced will find this an excellent introductory course. The course is two laps which starts and finishes at the beach car park in the centre of Rosslare village. The course takes runners out towards Ashfield Cross (towards the N11) before turning left onto the local Ford of Lyng Road and back into the village. The course can be viewed at http://ridewithgps.com/routes/361412
Due to the increasing popularity of the event, chip timing will be introduced for the race. Race entry is €15 online via www.runireland.com or participants can register on the day for €20. For more information visit our website - http://wextriclub.com/rosslare-10k/2012-race - or send us an e-mail at wexfordtriclub@gmail.com
This event is also a very popular family day out with sprints on the beach for the children as well as a bouncy castle.
We would appreciate it if you could spread the word about our race and hopefully we'll see some of you on the day.
WEXFORD CELTIC LADIES
Last week the ladies travelled down to Corach Ramblers for the first round of the 1B Cup and, true to their form this season, they came away with another win, 7-0.
Lorraine Mcmahon scored her first hattrick and other scorers were Nelly Walsh, Sarah Beaver, Elva Furlong and Kim Walker. This was Kim's last goal for the team this season as she headed off on her round the world trip last week. A great asset to the team, she will be dearly missed. Her team-mates gave her a great send-off last week and they wish her well on her new adventure.
Last Sunday's game was called off at short notice due to North End's Drinagh pitch being unplayable. This game has now been re-scheduled for Sunday, February 26.
On Sunday next the team will travel to Shillelagh for the semi-final of the league. Therefore, 100% attendance is expected at training on Wednesday/thursday at 7 p.m. sharp.
Once again John and the Wexford Celtic crew are having a clothes drop to raise much-needed funds for the club. Please drop any unwanted clothes to the clubhouse in Sinnotstown Lane on Saturday, February 25. Your support will be well appreciated by Wexford Celtic Soccer Club.

TUSKAR ROCK GOLF
Sunday last saw our Captain Ger Mulhall's drive-in. The weather was perfect and the course had held up well after the rain the night before.
We had a very strong turn-out for the drive-in and afterwards we had a ninehole three-person scramble. The winners were Captain Ger Mulhall, playing with St. Helen's Captain John Holt and Danny Cleary, with a score of 26.3 strokes.
Second were Ray Freeman, Liam Bennett and Tommy Boyce with 27.1, and third very closely behind was our Honorary Secretary's team with Diarmuid Moore, Stephen Southam and Brendan Rochford on 27.2.
Captain Ger thanked head greenkeeper Kevin and his team and Liz and the staff of the clubhouse for the reception and food afterwards.
Sunday next sees the last round of our winter champion singles, where it is still very tight and very hard to predict who will come home with the trophy. The timesheet is open.
Any member wishing to participate in any of our inter-club teams can do so by putting their names on the tournament sheets posted up in the gents' locker room. Any member who would like to put their name down to manage an interclub team must do so by next weekend.

HARRIERS CAMOGIE
A meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 22, in the Talbot Hotel, Wexford, at 8 p.m. for all interested in relaunching the Faythe Harriers camogie club.
Camogie's Leinster Development Officer, Jenny Duffy, will be in attendance. It is hoped to get girls from Under-8 to Under-14 involved this year, so all parents of potential players and anyone interested in giving a hand to get things up and running are invited to attend.
