Wednesday September 01 2010
THE SECOND round of the Reggie and Phil Turner Memorial Leger was completed on Thursday last, and heat one went to the Nick Turner-trained 'Coco Dash' owned by Oliver Flynn (Waterford).
'Dash' led and ran on well to hold dead heaters 'Compass Molly' and 'Lightning Liam' in 30.45. Heat two saw 'A Blonde Tail' set the early pace, but 'Dons Rebel' strode to the front at the third bend to go on to score by one and a half lengths from 'Woodstock Honcho', with 'A Blonde Tail' a head away in 30.35. ' Dons' is owned by Geoffrey Sharrock (Ballyruane) and was scoring for the ninth time.
Heat three saw a fine effort from 'Metric Daisy', owned by Larry Byrne (Enniscorthy). She took up the running from the second bend and ran out an impressive winner by four lengths from 'Ballarue Ben' who ran on well in second in 30.26. Where would we be without a 'Compass' winner, and heat four provided us with it as 'Compass Hodge', owned by Helen Wadsworth, came to lead at the third and went on to score by a length from 'Ashwood Finbarr' in 30.67.
Heat five saw a clear win for 'Business Doc', owned by Se?nie Fenlon and Dean Harpur. He led and ran home four lengths clear of 'Clover Fantasy' in 30.33. The last heat (six) went in convincing style to 'Kilgraney Hawkeye' who came home nine lengths to the good from 'Humble Power' in a best of the round 30.25. The winner is owned and trained by Mary Buggy (Co. Carlow).
The final of the Tony Flood Memorial A6 Non-Winners Stake was also run, and hot favourite 'Everlast Rocket' was an easy winner, scoring by six and a half lengths from 'Moss House Clody' in 29.40 for owner Fergus Turner (Enniscorthy).
The tenth, an A1, was a good-looking race, and old boy 'Alnwick Oscar', owned by Patrick Shiel, showed he was still a force as he led and ran out a good winner, beating 'Elite Roy' by two lengths in 29.10.
The first two races were graded races, and the first, an A5, went to 'Tyford Belle', owned by Siobhán O'Gorman and Peter Barry, who scored by two and a half lengths in 29.72. The second, an A3, saw res. E, 'Leading Striker', owned by Richard Walsh Jnr., lead all the way to score by two and a half lengths in 29.18. 'Willies Brindle' stayed on well for second.
The feature event on Monday of last week was the Nobooth for Gary Unraced Bitch Stake final, and hot favourite was 'Cool It Baby', owned by Trevor Cummins (Navan). She was foot perfect as she broke well from her trap four slot and led to the first bend. It was as good as over as she went on for another impressive win in a fine 28.98 to remain unbeaten through the four rounds of the stake. 'Arcaton Linda' also ran a fine race to take the runner-up spot, with 'Piercestown Bag' in third.
