Darragh McDonald from Gorey is part of a strong team of six selected by Paralympics Ireland to compete at the Paralympic Swimming (I.P.C.) world championships in Glasgow from July 13-19.
A double Paralympian in Beijing 2008 and London 2012, McDonald is joined by Ellen Keane who also participated in both events. The team is completed by London Paralympians James Scully and Jonathan McGrath plus teenagers Ailbhe Kelly and Nicole Turner who have their first world championships to look forward to.
These championships are a key milestone on the road to Rio 2016 Paralympic Games qualification. Swimmers who win gold and silver in their events earn automatic qualification slots for their country.
For the others, the highest possible finish is vital as the remaining slots are allocated based on world rankings in 2016.
