Enniscorthy lost away to Wicklow last Saturday in a closely fought encounter.

This defeat however will hurt as they had a commanding lead of 17-0 after 20 minutes.

Right wing Ivan Jacob finished off an excellent back move, to score after five minutes. He scored another try 15 minutes later when his pace counted to run in from the half way. Out-half Ivan Poole added to the tally with 2 conversions and a penalty.

Wicklow then came into the game and with constant pressure from the pack they were awarded a penalty try near half time.

Playing with the wind in the second half and with the help of their excellent out-half Niall Earls they scored three penalties to bring them within one point of Enniscorthy. A penalty by Ivan Poole increased the visitors lead.

But with a man in the bin Enniscorthy were under pressure and Wicklow's winger scored an excellent out wide which Earls converted for the final score of the game.

This was a good contest played at a high tempo. Enniscorthy pressed hard at the finish but could not get the vital score.

Manager David Wrafter said afterwards: "We let ourselves down with some indiscipline particularly at the break down. We had a great start but indiscipline kept us on the back foot for most of the second half. Our fitness in the pack is not up to standard as yet."

Next Saturday at 3pm the Leinster League starts again with the visit of Dundalk to the Ross Road. Enniscorthy will need to put in a much improved performance if they are to retain their league title.
