Fast feet may lead to Big Apple prize
The search for Firefly's Fastest Feet is coming to Wexford. Firefly Foot & Ankle Clinic, Ireland's premier podiatry clinics, are searching for the fastest boy and girl in the land, no older than eight years of age.
Speed trials are taking place at the Presentation Secondary School Gym in Wexford town on January 27 at 7 p.m. Contact Shane for more details (087-9955505).
The winner could find themselves racing in New York against the Big Apple's fastest kids on the block, at the prestigious Millrose Games in Manhattan on February 20.
Firefly will be visiting a number of locations around the country where children will be tested on their top speed over a 'flying 20-metre' distance.
The fastest boys and girls under the age of eight will race off in a final in Athlone's A.I.T. international arena during the first weekend in February to be crowned champions of Firefly's Fastest Feet.
The sponsors will then fly the fastest boy and girl along with their parent/guardian to New York where they will compete in the 109th Millrose Games held at Manhattan's Armory Track and Field Center. Accommodation will be provided in New York for the duration of the stay as they prepare to race the Fastest Kids on the Block from across New York City.
This initiative is designed to inspire children in this Olympic year to get involved in athletics and will offer two of Ireland's fastest children an experience that will live with them forever.
All competing children must not be older than eight years of age before February 20, 2016. Due to the short lead time to the Millrose Games in New York, children must be available to race in Athlone on Sunday, February 7. Also, both child and parent/guardian must be willing to travel to New York and hold valid passports.
This event is open to all children no older than eight, affiliated with an athletic sports club or not.
