The Wexford County Badminton Association held a Juvenile blitz in Ramsgrange Community School recently. The event featured a total of 59 participants, from the Terrerath, Shelburne, Taghmon and Gorey clubs.

A total of 118 games were played across three age categories, including singles and doubles. There was no separation of boys and girls. Well done to all who participated, with a lot of close games played by our upcoming young badminton stars.

A special word of thanks to Laura Lynch, our under-age officer, who organised the tournament, and everyone who helped out in any way.

The group winners in each category were -

Under-11: singles Group 1, Andy Yu (Gorey); singles Group 2, Emer Sweetman (Gorey); singles Group 3, Aron Remenyik (Gorey); singles Group 4, Aoife Byrne (Terrerath); doubles Group 1, Leah O'Mahony and Emer Sweetnam (Gorey); doubles Group 2, Jeven Somers-Whitty and Tomasso Hickey (Shelburne).

Under-13: singles Group 1, joint winners Karim Boukhima (Gorey), Libby O'Brien (Taghmon) and Kyle Gammell (Gorey); singles Group 2, Maurice Cogley-O'Connor (Taghmon); singles Group 3, Jack Kelly (Taghmon); singles Group 4, James Kelly (Taghmon); singles Group 5, Eabha Cullen (Terrerath); doubles Group 1, joint winners Chloe Carroll and Libby O'Brien (Taghmon), and Kyle Gammell and Karim Boukhima (Gorey); doubles Group 2, Leah Canavan and Caoimhe Byrne (Gorey); doubles Group 3, Daniel Wallace (Shelburne) and Aoife Byrne (Terrerath).

Under-15/17: singles Group 1, Seán Bass (Gorey); singles Group 2, John Crosbie (Taghmon); singles Group 3, joint winners Ava Somers-Whitty (Shelburne), Joseph Hanlon (Shelburne) and Evan O'Hanlon (Taghmon); singles Group 4, Nigel Dunne (Shelburne); singles Group 5, James Hanlon (Shelburne); singles Group 6, Rory Lynch (Shelburne); doubles Group 1, Michael Carroll and Patrick O'Regan (Taghmon); doubles Group 2, Joshua Hewlett and Ava Somers-Whitty (Shelburne); doubles Group 3, Nigel Dunne and Rory Lynch (Shelburne).

The shield competition took place in Ramsgrange Community School. The third division was between Shelburne and Gorey, with Gorey coming out the victors.

The sixth division consisted of six teams split into two groups of three. Group A featured Taghmon 'A', Shelburne and Terrerath. Group B comprised Taghmon 'B', Davidstown and Gorey.

Some very close games were played in each group, with Taghmon and Gorey coming out the victors.

The final of the sixth division was played between Taghmon 'A' and Gorey, with Taghmon 'A' emerging victorious.

Well done to everyone involved, as some excellent games of badminton were played.
