The Gorey Under-17s went to Barnhall to play a touring group from South Africa on Sunday. The visiting team were from Grootvlei sports academy in South Africa.

Grootvlei 32 Gorey 17

The visitors played a fast off-loading game with great support and put up a score of 27-5 in the first-half, Gorey's only score coming from Robert Murphy after twelve phases of play.

But the second-half was Gorey's and they took the game to the visitors, getting two tries both from James Lawlor and Henry Kennedy converting the second.

The South Africans seemed to slow in the second-half as the Gorey lads put in some big tackles from Alex Rothwell, Joe Butler and Robert Murphy. The visitors' only score of the second-half came two minutes from full-time.

Gorey had some fabulous ball carriers in Seán Wafer, Cian Sullivan and Toby Falconer (capt.) who broke the line and made metres at every opportunity. The final score was Grootvlei 32, Gorey 17.

Gorey 17, Tullow 5: The Gorey Under-14s had their first competitive away fixture of the season on Saturday with a trip to Tullow in the South East League.

As per usual the hosts provided strong opposition and Gorey found themselves in defensive mode for a good portion of the game.

Some fine individual play from Brian Cushe resulted in him scoring two first-half tries.

Daragh Fitzpatrick also went over in the corner as the first-half came to an end, when his good support play led to him being in the right place for a pass from Brian.

One of he tries was converted by Lee Cushe with another effort hitting the post. The half-time score was 17-0.

That was to be the end of the scoring for Gorey as Tullow set about trying to create some scores.

Gorey almost held out but in the final minutes Tullow went over for an unconverted try.

The final score was 17-5 but the game was much tighter than what this suggests.

Two more players had their first outings in a Gorey jersey: Shay Guilfoyle and Simon Campbell-Carty.
