Gorey Community School was riding high at the 22nd All-Ireland inter-schools showjumping team championship earlier this month.

A team comprising Rebecca Steacy, Orla Allen, Doireann Ryan and Lucia Merrigan blazed a trail to glory, winning a €1,500 H.S.I. training bursary, a €500 cheque from GAIN and the Slaney Meats Perpetual Cup.

In addition, the Gorey C.S. crew claimed the South East Architectural Company Perpetual Cup for best Wexford-placed team.

To crown a great day, team members also excelled in the individual categories.

The open and Novice individual championship winner was Rebecca Steacy who received a prize of €500 from H.S.I. and a training bursary as well as a rosette and trophy.

Second prize of a rosette and trophy went to Orla Allen, while a fifth-prize rosette was awarded to Lucia Merrigan.

The superbly successful team also qualified for the schools international championship in Millstreet, Co. Cork, on August 16, giving them something to aim for in the coming months.
