Gorey ready for title defence
2015 was an historic year for the All-Ireland inter-schools showjumping championships held on Saturday, May 2, in Enniscorthy.
Increased numbers took part, and the first ten placed teams went forwards to the first-ever GAIN All-Ireland inter-schools supreme championship at Millstreet, Co. Cork, on Sunday, August 16, with €1,000 in prize money on offer plus GAIN feed vouchers and merchandise of rugs, jackets, numnahs and caps.
Gorey Community School excelled and won both the Enniscorthy and Millstreet competitions, a great achievement for any school team. They are to be congratulated on their dedication and hard work which certainly paid off.
This competition was launched in 1991 and celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2016, with an even bigger and better competition hoped for. Saturday, April 30, next is the date for the Enniscorthy leg of the competition, and again next year the top ten teams will go forward to a supreme championship in Millstreet in August.
The sponsors have been loyal to the organisers over the years, and they cannot be thanked enough for enabling the smooth running of this competition for so long - a great achievement for any voluntary run competition.
Thanks to GAIN Horse Feeds, Slaney Meats, Horse Sport Ireland and the Cooney Furlong Grain Company. Thanks also to David Young Equestrian and Equi-Needs, New Ross, for sponsorship of the best turned out competition.
The organisers also extend appreciation to Enniscorthy Greyhound Racing Company, Wexford Agricultural Show Society, and Thomas Duggan, Green Glens Arena, Millstreet.
