Wednesday September 01 2010

SUNDAY NEXT sees the final round of the Irish Grasstrack championship stop in Co. Wexford, close to the village of Camolin. Regular motocross fans will be familiar with this type of event as the competitors use the same machines as they do for motocross racing, the difference being that grasstrack races see much higher speeds.

Faster and shorter races provide plenty of excitement, and with Sunday being the series finale you can be sure to expect a little extra.

The main protagonists to watch out for in the Premier class will be Suzuki rider Mervyn Griffin and the Honda-mounted Ciarán Dowling. Griffin has had the lion's share of race wins but a poor round in Dundalk leaves him with a little catching up to do.

Aside from the Premier class race, the South East Motocross Club will be presenting a full programme of racing which include both youths and adults racing machines from 50cc up to 500cc. And it doesn't stop at that, as there will also be a set of races for vintage motorcycles from the '60s and '70s!

Racing will start at 11 a.m. Sunday morning. The track is located just outside of Camolin and is signposted from the N11. Admission is only €5 with children under 12 getting in free.
