Have a ball at Parks Tennis

Parks Tennis starts on July 4 in all of the 14 centres in County Wexford (except New Ross which is starting on July 11).
The most affordable summer camp in Ireland, the cost is €30 for four weeks for Under-9s (one hour per day), and €45 for four weeks for Over-9s for one and a half hours per week. Two-week and weekly rates are available.
The new plan for this year is to go virtual in teaching. We are throwing out the Tennis Ireland lesson plans and using virtual or shadow hitting to try to lock in the key strokes into all our new children.
Who needs a tennis ball or practice wall to learn a tennis stroke? By practicing five minutes per day and getting the correct stroke and practicing five minutes every evening, we can teach children in half the time. Once you have the stroke, hitting tennis balls is easy and winning matches easier.
Judy Murray, Andy's mother, recommends all players to try her clock warm-up which is shadowing each shot five to six times. Judy also recommends using a mirror, and once you have it, close your eyes and really ingrain it.
By the way, yes, we do have lots of soft balls for Under-9s and plenty of the yellow ones!
In 2016 by extending the camps for Over-9s to an hour and a half, the aim is to provide 30 minutes of practice time each day. Fridays of every week during July will also be for fun short team and doubles games.
Wimbledon starts on the 27th so with lots of interest in tennis, it is hoped that lots of children will try tennis this summer. Come along, meet new friends and have a ball!
