Jack Ryan (14), a student of Good Counsel College from The Rower, had a weekend to remember at Millstreet recently.
Jack, who was competing in the young rider Under-25 classes, won seven classes over the weekend with numerous other placings.
The highlight of the weekend was winning the €5,000 young rider Grand Prix on Sunday night. Jack, the youngest competitor in the class, had guaranteed his place in the final by also winning the qualifier on Saturday, riding eight-year-old mare Captain Carusette, owned by Eddie Moloney from Kilkenny.
Jack went through to an eleven-way jump-off and took every advantage with his draw of last to go jumping clear with a second to spare on his nearest rival, Jake Hunter from New Zealand.
To top off the weekend, Jack also won the leading young rider of the show. He is a second year student in Good Counsel College.
