Jessie Flood from Enniscorthy was reserve rider with the Irish mounted games team, sponsored by Devenish Nutrition, silver medal winners at the world team championships in Lexington, Kentucky recently.

Five amazing young Irish riders took the world championships by storm on borrowed ponies and were just pipped to the post by the U.S. team. Superb riding skills and experience came to the fore to enable the Irish riders to challenge the American team, who were riding their own ponies.

The final scores were: U.S.A. 144; Ireland 141; Canada 124; New Zealand 113; Australia 102; Wales 90; Northern Ireland 83; Switzerland 66.

The Irish riders were: Mark Devitt (Laois), Aidan Hanlon (Meath), Jake O'Connor (Kildare), Tony Whooley (Cork) and Donelle O'Leary (Cork), with Jessie Flood ready to offer back-up assistance if required. The team members were trained by Jerome O'Connor, also from Kildare.
