Leinster honours for Wexford juveniles
AT NA FIANNA handball headquarters in Dublin, on Friday, September 10, Wexford juveniles contested the Leinster finals of Team Events in two age groups - U-12/13 team of six and U-16/17 team of four. Over the past three weeks, Wexford had stormed their way past teams in their group with wins over Wicklow and Kilkenny to reach both finals.
In the U-12/13 final it was the Model County versus Meath, known as the Royal County, who proved no match for a powerful Wexford outfit as the total scores clearly explain it was an emphatic victory to the tune of aggregate aces with Wexford on 90 to Meath's 20.
The team members of Thomas Hall, Kevin Shannon, Oisin Foley, Adam Hanrahan, Stevie Lawlor, Seamus Sinnott and Keith Armstrong were presented with their Leinster plaques and now proceed to contest the All-Ireland semi-final on October 10.
The U-16/17 team of four final was a similar story with Wexford totally overwhelming a very weak Dublin squad who just had no answer to the power serve of the Wexford players, Walter Lawler, James Maddock, Dean Power and Brian Busher. So, on a scoreline of 60 aces to 14 the Wexford squad advance to the All-Ireland semi final and await the winners of Connaught. The best of luck to both squads.
