London Calling for Grainne Murphy

NEW ROSS Swimmer Grainne Murphy has booked her place at the London 2012 Olympics, writes Brendan Furlong.
Grainne turned in a superb performance in the 800m freestyle at the Dutch Open championships in Eindhoven on Saturday last.
Murphy clocked 8.31.44 to finish third but was two seconds inside the qualification standard.
Peter Banks, Swim Ireland's National Performance Director, said: ' I'm very pleased for Grainne. It means now that we have two booked for London as Barry Murphy has done this time too.
"Grainne now knows the pressure is off and that is great for any athlete. All she has to do is focus on her training and that will be ideal leading up to London." Banks also spoke of it as been a great swim from the New Ross girl. "This is a great early season swim for Grainne. It is her first competitive outing since the disappointment of the World Championships last summer and is an added bonus to have achieved the A standard at this stage."
It was a fantastic swim from Grainne who can now set out with confidence on her London Olympic preparations over the coming months.
