New Ross duo make splash in Lisburn
Lydia Kehoe from the New Ross club represented the county with distinction on day two of the Irish short course swimming championships in Lisburn, Co. Antrim, on Saturday.
Competing in the women's 100m butterfly final, she completed the course in 1.02.37 to secure second spot and the silver medal behind Emma Reid of Ards.
It was a thrilling race, with the 16-year-old winner clocking a time of 1.01.75 to finish just ahead of Kehoe, while Jane Roberts of U.C.D. was clipping at the Wexford girl's heels in third in 1.02.49.
And Lydia wasn't finished just yet, as on Sunday she raced to a bronze medal in a closely-fought 400m individual medley in a time of 4.54.17, battling all the way with winner Ellen Walshe (Templeogue, 4.50.90) and second-placed Aoife Shorten (Galway, 4.52.58).
Her fellow New Ross club swimmer, Clodagh Quirke, also returned with a medal from Sunday's races, as she collected a well-earned bronze in the 1,500m freestyle in a time of 18.17.02 behind Katie Baguley (Glenalbyn, 17.25.33) and Shona Hickey (Limerick, 17.52.46).
