Parks tennis update
Parks Tennis has been trying new games for the Under-9s in all venues for the last two weeks. The aim is always to keep our programme fun and interesting and try to teach all the children three basic strokes.
As well as the new games, Loreto is now open as a match practice venue for the best four to six players from each of the 15 venues.
Under-10s are on Wednesday, Under-12s on Thursday, and Under-14s and Under-16s on Friday. Every player gets a chance to play a few short games of singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.
These practice games will make the finals on July 24 more interesting. There is likely to be great competition between the three biggest venues - New Ross, Piercestown, and Bridgetown-Kilmore.
Bridgetown-Kilmore are holders of the Liam Kennedy Cup and with their new team t-shirts, finals day is already building up to be a great occasion.
As well as the competition, Parks Tennis is keen to open our programme to all children and we have trained children from Lady of Fatima. Meanwhile, the children in the autism camp in Scoil Mhuire are having great fun.
Any child who has enjoyed Wimbledon and wants to try tennis is welcome to drop into any of the 15 venues around the county for €25 for one and half hours for the last two weeks.
