Re-united in Rio

Sport, as in life itself, has a habit of throwing up all sorts of unusual situations.
Back in 1993 when Sarsfields lost to Kilanerin in the replay of the Co. Senior football final, Billy Walsh was coming to the end of his days in their back line while Darren Browne was one of their up and coming forwards.
Fast forward 23 years and both are involved in the Rio Olympics in different capacities, with Billy coaching the U.S.A. boxers while Darren is working as a physio with a number of individual American athletes plus the Zambian national team.
Of course, there will also be another case of former colleagues re-uniting in the case of Billy and his neighbour from just up the road in Liam Mellows Park, Eddie Bolger, who is now right-hand man to Zaur Antia with the Irish boxers. What are the odds on the two camps meeting at some stage over the next fortnight?
We must also mention Shane Codd, son of Rosslare Golf Club Secretary Frank, who is caddying at the Olympics for Colombian lady Mariajo Uribe.
Shane has been caddying on the European and American Tours for ten years after qualifying as a professional under Johnny Young in Rosslare. He has worked with the Colombian on the American Tour since 2014 and is married to professional golfer Rebecca Coakley.
