Wexford girl Sabia Doyle sped to success when she set a new sprinting record recently.

The 12-year-old from Corish Park won the national final for the Under-13 80 metre sprint, setting a new Irish record in the process. Sabia, who is a member of Menapians Athletics Club, picked up the prize at the National Juvenile track and field championships in Tullamore, Co. Offaly.

'I was really excited when I won,' she said. 'Actually, I was speechless!'

Sabia, who has been a member of the club for five years, had been training for the competition since September. According to her mother, Edel Doyle, she takes her sport very seriously.

'She is so dedicated,' she said. 'She worked so hard to get this far and we are all really proud of her.'
