Seven Wexford handballers going for gold

Seven Wexford handballers will go for gold in the World Handball championships in Calgary on Friday.

Leading the way in the 13 and under doubles will be Josh Kavanagh and Mark Doyle who beat Tyson Clarke and Jack Doyle 15-11, 15-11 in the semi final on Thursday and will play Cahir Munroe and Jason O'Toole from Galway in the final.

Daniel Kavanagh will play in two world finals on Friday, in the 17 and under singles semi final today he defeated Tadgh O'Neill from Cork 21-12, 21-14 and will play Fergal Coughlan from Clare in the final. In the doubles final Daniel will be partnered yet again by Sean Kerr from Tyrone and they will play Diarmuid Mulkerrins and Tadgh O'Neill in a repeat of the one wall doubles final.

Noel Holohan and Daniel Breen (Kilkenny) beat Japan's Kitahara Daisuke and Yutaka Sakurai 21-6, 21-1 to qualify for the final of the Men's C doubles against Michael Donovan and Tomas Lennon from Laois at 11 am. Noel lost out in the semi final of the Mens C singles going down 21-17, 17-21, 11-10 to Rory O'Connor from Kerry.

Gavin Buggy and Dominic Lynch from Kerry will play David Maloney and Michael Duxie Walsh in the final of the Men's masters doubles after the Wexford/Kerry duo beat Cesar Sala and Trevor Huber from New York 21-1, 21-8. Gavin lost out in the semi final of the 35 and over singles today going down 21-7, 21-7 to Michael Duxie Walsh.

Mens 45 and over singles final will be a Wexford Kilkenny affair as Robert Doyle is through to the final against Willie Holden at 10am, after Doyle beat Conor McDonell from Monaghan on a 21-14, 21-8 score line.

Ned Buggy will partner Eugene Kennedy from Dublin in the final of the 65 and over doubles after a fantastic 21-8, 21-7 win over Edward Campbell and Michael Woods from California last night to complete the line up of players in the purple and gold who will play for gold today in Calgary.
