Weekend saw 1,200 runners participating

A STAGGERING 1,200 people took part in the Wexford Half Marathon and 10km race at the weekend.

Organiser Eoin Ryan, who ran the event in association with the DMP Athletics Club, described it as 'massively successful'.

Both races began on Wexford Quayfront and finished in the Faythe, with the half marathon going through Johnstown Castle.

The race had representation from every county in Ireland and a few from abroad including America, France and England.

Results of the men's half marathon: 1. Ruairi O'Donnell, Ferrybank AC, 1:15:45; 2. David Barron, Slaney Olympic AC, 1:16:43; 3. Tommy McElwan, SBR Ferns, 1:16:48.

Results of the women's half marathon: 10 Jackie Carthy, Kilmore AC Wexford, 1:22:06; 12. Angela McCann, Clonmel AC, 1:22:20; 48. Donna Dowling, Kilkenny City Harriers, 1:31:47.

Results of the men's 10km: 1. Paul Gibbons, Sliabh Buidhe Rovers AC, 0:35:12; 2. Gavin Keogh, 0:35:12; 3. Edwin Keville, Rathfarnham WSAF, 0:35:57.

Results of the women's 10km: 8. Ann Sullivan, DMP AC, 0:39:16.
