Wexford races on Friday evening

The most popular fixtures at Bettyville race course in Wexford over the years have been Friday evenings, and the well-sponsored and attractive National Hunt card this Friday (July 7) should be a magnet for supporters.

The seven-race card begins at 5.45 p.m. with The info@wexfordraces.ie Mares Maiden Hurdle of €11,500, over two and a half miles.

The Stena shipping companies sponsor two of the races, the €11,500 two and a half mile Stena Line Europe Maiden Hurdle at 6.15 p.m., and at 7.45 p.m. The Stena Line Horizon Beginners' Steeplechase of €12,500 over an extended three miles.

At 6.45 p.m. the €10,500 Mary Barry Seafood Bar Handicap Hurdle (rated 80-95) will be run over two miles, followed at 7.15 p.m. by the €10,500 Brendan Cullimore Electric handicap hurdle, also a two-mile event.

The concluding two races are both sponsored by Michael Moore Mercedes-Benz and VW Portarlington and Athlone - the €12,500 Handicap Chase over two and a half miles at 8.15 p.m., and the concluding €10,500 bumper over two miles two furlongs at 8.45 p.m.

And finally, a special word of advance warning for the ladies - at the meeting on Friday evening, July 28, the most stylishly dressed competitions will be staged, with great prizes from the world leading Monart Spa up for grabs.

Put the date in the diaries and start preparing now.
